How lucky are we to live in a community with such talented people! Meet fellow PYCCNN Member Barbara C. Hansen, Director of Obesity, Diabetes & Aging Research at the Morsani College of Medicine and Professor of Internal Medicine & Pediatrics at the University of South Florida, Tampa. Do we control our fat, or does it control us? For generations, overweight individuals have been stigmatized and cast as lazy. But scientists are coming to understand fat as a fascinating and dynamic organ—one whose size has more to do with biological processes than personal choices. Through real-life stories of hunter-gatherers, sumo wrestlers, and supermodels, NOVA explores the complex functions of fat and the role it plays in controlling hunger, hormones, and even reproduction.

This is how the event works:

Watch the TV Production called NOVA on WEDU - PBS (eg: Spectrum ch. 3). Then sign up for a Session to Discuss the subject via Zoom.com with the Scientific Director, Dr. Hansen. Take some notes; have some questions ready. This will be a free members-only video chat event using Zoom.com. Dr. Hansen will email you the login instructions for the video chat. It is really easy to use. You will have to download Zoom.com software beforehand, so give yourself at least 15 minutes before the Session.

NOVA run times on Spectrum cable ch. 3: Wednesday 4/8 premier 9-10pm, 1-2am ; Friday 4/10 5-6am, 8-9am, 12-1am; Saturday 4/11 4-5pm, 1-2am. Check your local programming and possibly online at www.pbs.com
